Sustainable
Out of Love for Our Homeland

Thinking sustainably.
Reducing our ecological footprint and preserving nature.

Our Vision – Our Values

Our goal is to inspire guests, employees and partners and to enrich their lives through our passion for nature and well-being in a sustainable way. For us, sustainability means taking responsibility through small yet meaningful steps and consistently integrating them into our daily actions.

Our close connection with nature and the desire to preserve its beauty are very important to us. That is why sustainability and mindfulness influence every decision we make. We strive to harmoniously combine ecological, social and economic goals. This awareness of resources, employees and guests is part of our mindset and firmly embedded in our actions. Together, we take responsibility and shape a sustainable future.

Energy
35% of the energy we require comes from our own woodchip-powered heating system, while a further 14% is generated by the hotel’s photovoltaic system. The remaining 51% is supplied by our regional energy provider Montafonerbahn Schruns.

In the spirit of sustainability, none of our rooms are equipped with energy-intensive air conditioning. Instead, we rely on natural cooling through regular ventilation, which also contributes to a healthier indoor climate. During the summer season, we also promote e-mobility. Guests can rent one of our four e-bikes for a small fee of €35 per person per day.

Cuisine
In our gourmet cuisine, sustainability, seasonality and regional sourcing play a central role. From our homemade jams, muesli and smoothies to the breakfast eggs and the many ingredients used for the afternoon snack and the evening gourmet menu – everything comes from the surrounding region. Most of the products we use are sourced from the Montafon and the nearby region, helping to keep transport routes short and environmentally friendly. We purchase meat and sausages from the “Salzgeber Butchery” in Schruns, our delicious bread and pastries are delivered by “Begle Bakery” in Bludenz, and fresh fruit and vegetables come from “Grabher” in Frastanz. Even our fresh fish is sourced locally from “Fische-Güfel” in Meiningen, while dairy products naturally come from “Vorarlberg Milch”.
Waste
Our guests have the opportunity to dispose of waste separately. The corresponding recycling bins are available on every floor near the lift. Other types of waste, such as glass or special waste, can be handed to our staff, who will carefully sort and dispose of it.

For beverage supplies, we largely use reusable containers. Single-use beverage containers and other disposable packaging are avoided or reduced wherever possible. Portion-sized food packaging is also kept to a minimum, and we aim to eliminate it from our range wherever feasible.

Regular garden waste is composted on the hotel grounds, while larger amounts of green waste are taken to the municipal recycling centre in Schruns. Thanks to our two hardworking lawn robots in the garden (Heidi & Hertha), grass cuttings are reduced, as the finely shredded grass remains on the lawn as natural fertiliser.

For waste disposal, we work with the company Branner from Klaus.

Water
We use the technology of Johann Grander (Grander Water).
GRANDER water revitalisation devices consist of a revitalised water core within a weakly magnetised metal housing.
  • Revitalised water also revitalises those who use it. A life-giving source that passes on its vitalising properties and contributes to the well-being and development of plants, animals and, of course, people.
  • Revitalised water according to Johann Grander tastes like fresh spring water. It helps food stay fresh longer and enhances the natural flavours of food and beverages.
  • On a physical level, the water achieves a high dissolving capacity, which can lead to a more economical use of detergents and cleaning agents.
  • The formation of limescale – and consequently deposits and rust – is reduced.

All of our toilet flush systems are equipped with a dual-flush function, which significantly reduces water consumption. Urinals operate via motion sensors. In addition, water flow regulators are installed in our taps and showers to further minimise water usage.

Housekeeping
Our guests have the opportunity to choose the “Green Choice” with our new sustainability card. By placing the door hanger on the door handle, you can easily opt out of daily room cleaning. If you would still like to receive fresh towels, simply let us know at the reception.
SPA
In our spa area, we primarily work with products from the brand Alpienne. These products contain only highly concentrated, wild-growing or wild-cultivated organic plant-based ingredients. These valuable active ingredients are carefully extracted and refined by hand on Alpienne’s own farms and in their laboratories. Natural substances such as honey, propolis, lemon and salicylic acid are used for preservation, while only the purest essential oils are selected to fragrance the products.
Reception
At our reception, we are also committed to improving sustainability by continuously working to reduce printing costs and paper waste. While not every printout can be avoided, we strive to minimise and optimise our printing wherever possible. Our printer paper is certified with the EU Ecolabel. Printed materials – such as our hotel brochures and business cards – are produced by the printing company Thurnher in Rankweil.
E-Charging Stations for Electric Cars
Travel on holiday with your electric car – no problem at the Vitalquelle Montafon.
